March 2009. A workshop was held in Pohnpei on planning priority weed eradication projects in The Republic of the Marshall Islands, the States of Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk and Yap of the Federated States of Micronesia and The Republic of Palau. Specifically, it covered designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects to ensure success. During a visit to a resort, a plant was seen that nobody could identify, and it was suggested that a photo was sent to PestNet.
The plant was identified as Caesalpinia bonduc, a widespread littoral shrub. The recurved thorns on its foliage are nasty. It could be considered a weed: “any plant growing where it is not wanted”.
