March 2002. How to control Asphodelus fistulosus (onion weed), which is a noxious weed found in Australia – a question asked by Agricultural Commissioner’s Officer, Santa California, California.
From the 1993 Edition of Recommendations for the control of nuisance plants by John Peirce.
Asphodelus fistulosus
Chlorsulfuron 750g/kg ai – apply at 10-20 g/ha, wetting agent 0.25 % during early winter. Because onion weed prefers alkaline soils this herbicide will remain in the soil for some time suppressing other susceptioble species.
Metsulfuron 600g/kg ai – apply at 5-10g/ha, wetting agent 0.25 % during early winter. This option is slighlty safer than Chlorsulfuron.
Cultivation is effective where it can be used safely and not lead to erosion.
