It was identified as Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Girad) the Red banded thrip, but there is a need to send some specimens to a specialist to be sure.

This species has been reported in Galapagos as possibly native, principally because it has been collected in aerial nets placed on boats traveling within the archipelago. Worth some further investigation.

It was mentioned that there are other species of thrips with red-banded larvae including species of Franklinothrips (Thyusanoptera: Aeolothripidae). Many thrips larvae are difficult/impossible to identify beyond genus, and with it is difficult to get to family.
