February 2011. Mosquitoes from Samoa and Cook Is sent for identification.
The top images were sent from Samoa. The Cook Is asked if the mosquito was similar to one there in the family Chironomidae, Chironomus magnivalva.
In the same disucussion, the Cook Is sent the two lower images and asked what might be the name of the mosquito. A member suggested that it resembled Ochlerotatus vigila (formerly Aedes vigilax), the saltmarsh mosquito, which is moderately invasive and spreading across the Pacific from Australia and SE Asia.
