February 2007. In the Maldives, an earwigs were found in association with the coconut hispid beetle (Brontispalongissima). The individual collected on Dhigura Island appears to be wingless, whereas the individuals collected on Hilton Island have wings. Wingless individuals were found with an abundance of hispid beetle larvae whereas the winged individuals were found only with adult beetles. Including pincers, the body length of the wingless individual is about 2.5 cm.
Apparently, the earwig Chelisoches morio is a predator of the hispid beetle (B longissima is also known as B frogatti?). See Risbec J (1933) An enemy of Brontispa froggatti Sharp in the New Hebrides. Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Seances de l’Academie des Sciences (Paris) 197(22): 1357-1358.
