Megacerisium horni, citrus, PNG

December 2009. This cerambycid beetle is causing serious stem/branch borer to citrus trees in Papua New Guinea.

A member thought that it was Megacerisium horni (Heller), a pest also in Solomon Islands. It was controlled by cutting off infested branches well below the lowest frass exit hole, and then burning the branch. The work is described in:

Friend D, Macfarlane R (1974) Megacerisium horni (Heller) a new Longicorn stem borer of cocoa in the British Solomon Islands. PANS 20(2): 203-207.
