May 2006. Confirmation was requested of the identification of a cerambycid beetle collected from sugar cane in the Gia Lai province of highland Vietnam. It was suspected of being either Dorysthenes walkeri or Dorysthenes hydropicus, because both of these two are very similar and cause damage on sugar-cane.
Gressitt & Rondon (1970) provide a key for the genus with an image for each species covered and distribution records [Cerambycids of Laos. Pacific Insects Monograph 24: 1-314 (Dorysthenes, pages 20-23)]. It does not include D hydropicus. The CABI Crop Protection Compendium 2005 gives a datasheet for Dorysthenes buqueti, but there are no images.
Unfortunately, members were not able to help, except with the reference cited above.
