Camphor scale infesting Serianthes, Guam

| September 2014. The camphor armored scale, Pseudaonidia duplex, was recently detected on Guam infesting seedlings of the endangered species, Serianthes nelsonii. It has about 200 known hosts including citrus and mango.

As to where it came from, it was not known, but a likely origin would be Hawaii, California or Florida, and the most likely pathway would be on ornamental plants.
Trade pathways need to be examined. In view of how widespread the species is (see http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov/catalogs/diaspidi/Pseudaonidiaduplex.htm). Hawaii is a possible source as Guam receives plant material from there. |
