October 2005. The bird was found during a container ship inspection/clearance by quarantine Inspectors. The ship was destined to dock in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, coming from Busan, Korea. Pohnpei does not such a bird on the island. It has a ring on its foot and the information will be put on the Internet.
Its plumage is black/grey with a yellow-green and red showing on feathers at the rear. Its feet are red.
It is proabably a homing pigeon, a domestic version of what it called (in Hawaii) rock doves (Columba livia). Perhaps that bird was in a race, and went off course. the rings will tell whether it is a wild or domesticated. If it is not a racing pigeon, it may have been banded for a research study. There are a number of native pigeons in the islands that may need to be considered if it is not a racing pigeon.
