March 2006. A low-tech method that can help diagnose the Papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatu. When live specimens collected from papaya are crushed on paper, the body color is yellow; but when killed and preserved in 80% alcohol at room temperature, the body contents turn completely black within 48 hours (often much sooner).
