November 2005. Solomon Islands asked for methods of killing slugs, as propietary brands of slug and snail mulluscidies were not avaialble.
Several members mentioned the work in Hawaii, published by Robert Hollingsworth on the use of caffiene as an alternative. There are references to this work on the Internet. For instance, there was mention on the ABC’s Gardening Australia television program, suggesting the coffee-based spray works well for control of slugs and snails (10 parts water to 1 part instant coffee). See: www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s1484689. Also, old coffee grounds can be spread around the garden.
