Hyperaspis silvestrii, possibly, Yap, FSM

February 2012. There is a scale outbreak on one of the atolls of the Yap group, Federated States of Micronesia. An attempt was going to be made to send Cryptolaemus and Radolia from Pohnpei, but none could be found. However, the ladybeetle in the photo was found: what is it?

The lady beetle looks like Hyperaspis silvestrii which preys on mealybugs. For more info and images, visit:

However, the insect from Guam has light yellow spots, whereas the one from Pohnpei has white sports.

[Later] The photos were sent to Professer Hong Pang, Sun Yat Sen University, Guangzhou. Professer Hong sent them to Wang Xingmin, Department of Entomology, South China Agriculutural University, Guangzhou. He agreed with the identification.
