Cerambycid Kosrae

June 2009. From the northern part of Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia, a beetle from coconut. There was no suggestion that it was harming the palms. It was thought to be a species of long-horned beetle.

It was confirmed to be a cerambycid, and that it appeared to be one of the more ???primitive??? subfamilies, perhaps related to Archetypus or Hastertia. A similar beetle was seen in Papua New Guinea some years before. It was also said to have been reported from Kosrae previously, and is present in Pohnpei. It was thought that it feeds on organic matter.

The Australian Museum latter suggested that it was subfamily Prioninae.
