October 2005. A photograph of a citrus fruit with a rough patterned skin. What could have caused these symptoms?
It was suggested that the scarring nearer the blossom end of the fruit resembles mite damage, and this is commonly seen in Hawaii. Perhaps it was the citrus rust mite. Another suggestion was that the scarring on the lower surface could have been caused by thrips. Inspection for mites should be done on young fruit.
