May 2005. Biosecurity Australia asked how to remove mealybugs and hard scale insects from banana fruits.
One way is to dip the bananas in dish washing soap, and after the dip wash them with a strong jet of water. If the stream is pointed between the banana fingers it should take care of the mealybugs.
