June 2016. Photos of a new species of locust that had damaged a medicinal plant (Cratoxylum cochinchinense) were sent to Pestnet for identification. These sample were collected in Pathom Commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien Province (North mountain province in Vietnam). An identification was requested.
An identification was made by David Rentz, a Pestnet Associate as follows: It’s the Military Grasshopper, Pyrgomorphidae, Aularches miliaris. He says: “I’ll bet it is really toxic too. Just like other pyrgomophs. A beaut species, though”.
