Mango flower moth

April 2008. Photos were sent of a blossom blight of mango on Morea, French Polynesia. The orchard is 9 years’ old on the east of the island on slightly sloping land facing the sea. The variety is Mission. Mango flower April to June and at the end of the year. Is the problem due to anthracnose or powdery mldew?

The problem was thought due to caterpillars attacking the young flowers. They may web the whole inflorescence. Cryptoblabes or another Crambid moth may be responsible. Damage to the young fruits can also be caused by Tortricid moths.
