Members thought that it looked like a Syrphid fly/hover fly (Diptera: Syrphidae), and bears a resemblance to a syrphid in Hawaii called rat-tailed maggot (Eristalinus arvorum). A member in India suggested it was the syrphid Eristalis sp.
