October 2009. Insects were found in a consignment of rice in Tuvalu. What are they?
Members thought that they were silvanid beetles in the genus Ahasverus, possibly A advena (see photos at: http://bugguide.net/node/view/100100). The beetle is already cosmopolitan, attacking practically all stored products. Damage is not as pronounced as in the other stored pests like Tenebroides. Sanitation and proper drying of products can control the beetles.
