Pests Pest Management Quarantine Import risk assessments IRAs, exotic pests, ISPM standards, Pakistan

IRAs: exotic pests

September 2004. Information was requested from Pakistan on Pest Risk Analysis procedures for exotic insect pests, and also how new invasions should be reported.

The process of undertaking pest risk analysis is covered by the International standards (ISPMs) # 2 Pest risk analysis and #11 Pest risk analysis for quarantine pests, including analysis of environmental pests. These can be found on the International Plant Protection Convention Portal at: http://www.ippc.int/cds_ippc_prod/IPP/En/standards.htm

All the relevant standards should be available in-country; contact the person in charge of the National Plant Protection Organisation.

In terms of reporting new outbreaks, this should be done through the NPPO. If an Asian country, the information should be forwarded to the Asia Pacific Plant Protection Commission Secretary – following the international standard ISPM # 17- Pest reporting.
