Pests Pest Management Cultural control Papuana beetle control, Glycine wightii, Vanuatu
|
July 2001. In Vanuatu, there are reports from VARTC, Santo, of good control of Papuana beetle using the cover crop Glycine wightii. Land is left fallow for one or two years following a taro or another root crop. However, a trial in Solomon Islands, many years ago was inconclusive.
Exact details of the Vanuatu trial were requested: Is a fallow period of 2 years with legume cover crop resulting in no damage due to Papuana beetle. In that case, how does one determine that the field is “clean” and what is meant by “clean”?
