Leptocybe invasa, gall wasp, Eucalyptus

January 2006. Thailand reported as large outbreak of galls on Eucalyptus in northern parts of the country. The cause was thought to be the wasp that makes galls on Erythina.

However, a member replied: The gall wasp on Eucalyptus is almost certainly not the same as that on Erythrina. The wasp on Eucalyptus may be Leptocybe invasa. This species, originally described from the Middle East, is an Australian native which invaded the Mediterranean Basin and Eastern Africa a couple of years ago. Within the last year or so, it has been found in Thailand and Vietnam.

A copy of a paper which covers taxonomy and biology of this pest was attached. Searches for natural enemies of this pest are underway in Australia.
