August 2002. Leaves of yams in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, show two holes and mines in the area near the petiole. What is it caused by?
It was thought to be caused by a Lepidopteran. In OO Stout Plant Quarantine guidelines for Movement of Selected commodities in the Pacific (1982), there is mention that larvae of the family Glyphipterigidae (sp. indet.), order Lepidoptera, mine leaves and petioles of yam. It also states that it is ‘not likely on tubers; no action suggested (for quarantine purposes, that is). It is recorded as present in Cook Islands and Tonga.
It is also seen in Solomon Islands (editor).
