Caterpillar, Rhododendron. Bhutan

July 2017. A member from Bhutan send images of a caterpillar, and its damage, on rhododendron, and asked for identification.

Dave Britton, a member of Pestnet, wrote the following:

The larvae on Rhododendron from Bhutan are interesting; I’ll be very interested to see if they can rear them out. Superficially at least they look like riodinid butterfly larvae, possibly in the genus Dicallaneuraor similar. There are no published records of this family on rhododendron.
