July 2003. Termites attacking peanuts, corn, sugarcane and water melon (attached pictures) in Bolivia. Advice was sought on the identification and control.
Later, after the photos were sent to the Global Termite Network at the University of Berkeley, California, and a report was received from a UNEP termite expert in Brazil. The photos looks like Procornitermes triacifer, which is also reported as a pest of sugar cane, rice, coffee, eucalyptus and maize in Brazil. It does occur in Bolivia. Specimens are required to confirm the ID.
